Jinhyun Choo is an Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering at The University of Hong Kong (HKU). He obtained his Ph.D. from Stanford University, as a Fulbright Scholar, in Civil and Environmental Engineering (Geomechanics) with a minor in Mechanical Engineering. He then completed a year of postdoctoral training at Columbia University before joining the HKU faculty. In earlier days, he received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from Seoul National University in South Korea and then worked for three years at the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology.
Dr. Choo specializes in geomechanics and geotechnical engineering, and their intersections with computational solid mechanics and flow in porous media. His research work addresses subsurface-related to problems that relate to civil infrastructure, energy resources, and environmental sustainability. At HKU, he teaches Soil Mechanics (undergraduate), Advanced Soil Mechanics (taught postgraduate), Rock Engineering (taught postgraduate), and Computational Geomechanics (research postgraduate).
